As reported by TorrentFreak, the Czech file-sharing and hosting application Uloz.to was removed by Google from their Play Store due to piracy allegations.

The Uloz.to file-sharing application is a popular name internationally

However, Uloz has filed a counternotice with Google to get their application restored, as they believe the complaint is ungrounded.

A Uloz spokesperson told TorrentFreak the following:

“We are still in the middle of the counternotice process. We believe that the app will become available again because the claims of rightsholder representatives are more FUD than solid legal argumentation.”

If you visit the original page for Uloz.to on the Google Play Store you will encounter the following message.

The Uloz.to file-sharing application is a popular name internationally, as it has been reported to the US Trade Representative as a “notorious pirate site” on multiple occasions.

Similar to other file storage platforms, Uloz is used to share a variety of files but according to copyright holders, this platform is abused by Internet pirates.

One of the Czech anti-piracy organizations that have kept an eye on Uloz is Weemazz. They are responsible for submitting a request to Google to have Uloz removed from the Play Store.

One of the representatives from Weemazz, Radim Horak, stated the following on the Uloz Google Play Store situation:

“Google has complied with our request to delete the Uloz.to application. Based on its own inspection, Google confirmed our findings and removed the application from the Google Store.”

What’s more interesting though, is that the Uloz application is still available on the Apple App Store.

The Uloz.to website along with several of its app installation files are also still available online.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen file-sharing apps being targeted by copyright authorities.

Last year we saw FileLinked shut down by ACE, which was one of the most popular file-sharing apps in the world.

Google has also removed several apps from its Play Store in the past. We saw this with Perfect Player, ES File Explorer, and others.

Overall, it will be interesting to see if more file-sharing applications like Uloz will be removed from major app stores in the future.
